WORD of the DAY

The seventy[-two] returned rejoicing, and said, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.” Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky. Behold, I have given you the power ‘to tread upon serpents’ and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven. (Luke 10: 17-20)

How shall I live this Word?

Jesus is certainly pleased that the 72 disciples return “full of joy” for having experienced that, in the name of Christ the Lord, even the demons lose their strength. On the other hand, Jesus has perhaps seen some self-pride in the disciples for having exercised victorious power over the reality of poisonous evil for humans, like the sting of snakes and scorpions.
A further and important clarification: it is the encouraging certainty of being able to overcome even the evil one in the name of Christ, but the greatest joy is that the disciples names will be written in heaven, thus paradise is assured for them.

Yes, Lord, yes even to me will be opened the world of joy forever – Your Heaven!

The Voice of Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Human beings can choose. The only thing God will never take from us is our will, the power to will. I want to go to Heaven and with God’s grace, I will succeed.
