FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD

Fifth Friday of Lent
WORD of the DAY
If I do not perform my Father’s works, do not believe me; but if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Then they tried again to arrest him; but he escaped from their power. (John 10: 37-39)
How shall I live this Word?
In our word world we are immersed in words, we judge everything by words and with words, we believe we always put everything back in place by dint of words! Instead, Jesus asks the Pharisees to judge Him by the works He does because they tell the truth of Him and of His mission. The works speak louder than words, they say what we are in the depths of ourselves and what we truly believe. The works are the fruit of the tree we have sown and cultivate with patience and commitment. The works are the gestures of love that, on a daily basis, make love grow in us and in others. Works are the presence of God who walks the roads with us. And for this they are more frightening than words!
Lord, teach us to be recognized as Christians by the works we do and not just by the words we speak.
The Voice of Pope Francis, Angelus 10 July 2016
Doing good works, not just saying words that go to the wind. The song comes to mind: “Words, words, words”. No! Do, do. And through the good works that we do with love and joy towards our neighbor, our faith sprouts and bears fruit.
