FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD

WORD of the DAY
But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. (Matthew 6: 3-4)
How shall I live this Word?
This is a very important passage because it shows the emptiness, the nonsense, the foolishness of wanting to appear what we are not. I want others to think I am generous because I give them a used piece of clothing or I lend a book I have no more interest in. These are all signs of inauthenticity that in daily life are traded for truth, perhaps even splendors of generosity.
It is better to remember that Jesus, meek par excellence, used strong words of condemnation for those whose love for the truth of one’s being, easily pass to the lies of non-being that yearns to ‘appear’ brave, good, compassionate, etc.
Lord, You see me in the secret of my heart. convert me interiorly every day to the assiduous search for what is truly good, beautiful, and right.
The voice of Mother Teresa of Calcutta
There are those who think that everything is owed to them, but nothing is owed to anyone. Things are conquered with sweetness and humility.
