Confiteor: Short Meditations on the Penitential Rite

Immediately after the greeting offered by the priest, the Congregation is invited to an Examination of Conscience. All must humbly admit, acknowledge, and confess that we spiritually fall short. In blunt, we are all sinners. However, that is precisely the reason for Jesus’ coming to earth.   Jesus came to save us from sin and its […] Source: Confiteor: Short Meditations on the Penitential...

The Pope Video | March: The Sacrament of Reconciliation

MARCH: The sacrament of reconciliation Let us pray that we may experience the sacrament of reconciliation with renewed depth, to taste the forgiveness and infinite mercy of God. And let us pray that God may give his Church merciful priests and not torturers. Pope Francis – March 2021 When I go to confession, it is in order to be healed, to heal my soul. To leave with greater spiritual health. To pass from misery to mercy. The center of confession is not the sins we declare, but the divine love we receive, of which we are always in need. The center of confession is Jesus who waits for us, who listens to us and forgives us. Remember this: In the heart of God, we come before our mistakes. And let us pray that we may experience the sacrament of reconciliation with renewed depth, to taste the forgiveness and infinite mercy of God. And let us pray that God may give his Church merciful priests and not torturers.   PRESS RELEASE “From misery to mercy”: for the Pope, confession is about God’s infinite mercy The Pope Video for March seeks to highlight the joy that the sacrament of reconciliation brings, and reminds us...

WHAT IS AT STAKE IN THE UPCOMING 2020 ELECTION AS REGARDS NON-NEGOTIABLE MORAL ISSUES (summarized from the document produced by EWTN:  “2020 General Election of the United States: Major Party Platforms in Comparison with Catholic Teaching on the Non-Negotiable Moral Issues and the Negotiable Policy Issues”)   DIGNITY OF HUMAN LIFE FROM CONCEPTION TO NATURAL DEATH   WHERE THE CHURCH STANDS ON THE RIGHT TO LIFE & SACREDNESS OF ALL LIFE Pope St. John Paul II, Apostolic Exhortation Christifideles Laici 38. [T]he common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights – for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture – is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with the maximum determination. Encyclical Evangelium Vitae 58. Among all the crimes which can be committed against life, procured abortion has characteristics making it particularly serious and deplorable. The Second Vatican Council defines abortion, together with infanticide, as an ‘unspeakable crime’. U.S.C.C.B. Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, 2019 Introductory letter. The threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself,...

Because the Soul of our Nation is at Stake

Considering Catholic Morality: One Month Before the Election By Fr. Steve Ryan, SDB During this critical election, please pray for our nation, candidates and electorate. So… I’ve viewed statements and videos from various bishops and priests about the role of the Church as we head into the elections. Some were a bit wimpy; some were ok. Few were strong enough – so I’ll write something. I’ll start with this: As Catholics, remember that moral issues are hugely important. It’s not “just the economy” that is a concern when we go to the polls. Christian morality has always been fundamental to the roots and foundation of the United States. It’s okay to tell people that this country was founded on Judeo-Christian values and that these values were embraced by our Founding Fathers as the path that would make our democratic nation outstanding. We were not founded to be a purely secular state and certainly not an atheist one. Christian morality has always been at the heart of American life. Please feel obliged to speak about moral issues that are truly important in our nation. Issues like – the right to life in the womb, the education of our children, the importance...
