In 2002, the OIEC Congress held in Brasilia decided to establish the World Day of Catholic Education, setting the date forty days after Easter (that is, Ascension Thursday). This year it is nice to highlight this Day in relation to the process of Global Compact on Education initiated by Pope Francis. On May 13 we will celebrate World Catholic Education Day, which coincides with the Feast of Mother Mazzarello. The commemoration, promoted by international institutions such as the OIEC (International Office of Catholic Education), the FIUC (International Federation of Catholic Universities), the OMAEC (World Organization of Alumni of Catholic Education) and others, intends to draw attention to the contribution that Catholic education offers to global development and the promotion of a culture of peace and fraternity. To know more accurately the diffusion and service of Catholic educational institutions in the world, Quentin Wooden, an economist of the World Bank, edited a publication entitled “Celebrating Educators and Working Together for the Global Compact on Education”.
