FMA’s 24th GC: the first “Goodnight” of Mother General Chiara Cazzuola

13 October 2021 (ANS – Rome) – On 11 October 2021, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, 10th Successor of Mother Mazzarello at the head of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), offered her first Salesian “Goodnight” to the participants of the FMA’s 24th General Chapter with a message marked by the gratitude and centrality of Mary in the life of every religious and of the Institute. Already on October 5, 2021, immediately after the election, the newly elected Mother had said to the Chapter Assembly: “It is a mission greater than me. I trust in the Lord, and I entrust myself to Mary Help of Christians whom I feel very present. For this, I say Yes and I thank you for your trust. I know that it will be a path that we shall travel together.” Then, on the evening of Sunday 11, she expressed the following words with serenity and clarity: “The heart experiences many different feelings, but there is one above all the others: and it is gratitude. International Youth Rosary 2021

Paul Dungca, SDB        EAO, 7 October 2021 (Feast of the Most Holy Rosary, 3 PM, GMT 8+) — In the event dubbed “International Youth Rosary,” nine countries gathered together to pray the holy rosary to honor our Lady.        It was joined by priests, sisters, brothers, and young people. Almost 180 people joined the Zoom Meeting, while others participated via Online Stream. The activity was spearheaded by young people who likewise lead the rosary using their respective native languages.        They were: Inviolata Coo (Indonesia) – Introductory prayers in Bahasa Indonesia, Maria Vicky Bautista (Australia) led the 1st Mystery in English, Phuong Trinh (VIE) for the second mystery in Vietnamese. In Filipino, John Paul Almerez led the third moment. The fourth was in Tetum by Pedrosa Guterres (East Timor). Barbara Moe Pwint Phyu (MYM) led the fifth mystery in Burmese, with the same language, N Min Htun from Myanmar concluded the rosary. Miguel de Cervantes & the Battle of Lepanto SARAH METTS Miguel de Cervantes, who would one day write the great novel Don Quixote, was born in 1547 in Spain. His family had at one time held influence in society. By the time Cervantes was born, his father was poor and often had to travel in search of work. After studying under the Jesuits in Seville, Cervantes began a career as a soldier, and would find himself in the middle of one of the most important Christian military battles of all time—the battle of Lepanto.  By the 1500s, the Ottoman Empire’s naval fleet had become very powerful. They controlled most of the Mediterranean and often attacked parts of the Spanish and Italian coastlines, forcing the Christian inhabitants into slavery in North Africa. On Sunday, October 7, 1571, a group of naval forces from Spain, Naples, Sicily, Venice and Genoa, led by Don Juan of Austria, met the Ottoman forces in the Gulf of Lepanto, off of Western Greece. Cervantes’ own ship, the Marquesa, was part of the Christian fleet. When the fighting began, Cervantes was very sick, but when his captain insisted he should stay below, he replied, “up to now...

EAO ADMA Congress 2021 – A Rich Charismatic Experience

By ADMA EAO Congress Steering Committee        ADMA EAO, 13 September 2021 — After a long and involved preparation since January 2020, the Second EAO ADMA Congress (online) was a true rich and inspiring charismatic experience. On 11-12 September (3 hours each day) several hundred ADMA members, their spiritual animators (SDB and FMA), SDB provincials, young Salesians in formation and other members of the Salesian Family came together to pray, deepen their identity, interact and get to know each other better.        Praying together        On Sunday (Day 2) the beautiful animated Rosary prayer in 6 languages (Tagalog, English, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese and Cebuano) with amazing Marian songs in the respective languages. The opening prayer was offered in Tok Pisin and Motu (PNG) and final prayer was in Thai.
