All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. (Luke 2: 17-19) How shall I live this Word? The shepherds ‘see’ what the angels had made known to them, what they had told them. They truly recognize what was announced and the enthusiasm is so great that they do not keep it for themselves, but they also make it known to others. The shepherds heard, they gave credit to the proclamation, they experienced that what they heard was true: they saw it; and now they proclaim it in turn. What the angels did in heaven, the shepherds do on earth: they become angels, mediators of the word, to bring others to see what God has promised.
