“Faces of the same charism. Salesians & Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in the 20th century”

31 January 2022 (ANS – Rome) – The presentation of the volume Volti di uno stesso carisma. Salesiani e Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice nel XX secolo, or Faces of the same charism. Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in the twentieth century, edited by Fr Francesco Motto, SDB, and Sister Grazia Loparco, FMA, and published by LAS (Rome 2021) took place with extremely positive results on January 26 at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome. Promoted by the association of Salesian historians, Associazione Cultori di Storia Salesiana (ACSSA) in collaboration with the Faculty of Education and Social Communication of the aforementioned university, various scholars shared their presentations during the event. In his greeting, prof. Fr Antonio Dellagiulia, SDB, Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences (ESF) of the UPS, underlined the spiritual value of the individual profiles and their inclusion in the Salesian tradition; in the individual characters presented, he also identified that path of clear personal identity, great intimacy, and social generativity, of which a classic author of developmental psychology, Erik Erikson, speaks. Professor Fr Motto, President of ACSSA, then illustrated the complex phases of international preparatory work for the volume, the objectives that were intended and achieved, and the innovative...

St. Augustine’s Works in Today’s Language

“With his selections from and superb introduction to Augustine’s monumental City of God, Balthasar succeeds in making the text available to a new group of readers.” — David L. Schindler, Professor of Fundamental Theology, John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage The City of God Selections and Introduction by Hans Urs von Balthasar Saint Augustine Few books have impacted the West as deeply as The City of God. Yet few of us will ever read the epic work, which often stretches past one thousand pages. This volume offers a shorter, simpler road through Augustine’s masterpiece. Edited by Hans Urs von Balthasar, it presents key selections culled for their beauty and spiritual power, augmented by notes. Buy Now Use coupon code CITYOFGOD25 for 25% off* this title. Religious Life at the Change of an Era – An Anthology – Fr. Pascual Chávez Villanueva SDB

06 December 2021 Fr Pascual Chávez Villanueva needs no introduction. This book is an anthology of talks and papers given on different occasions and to different assemblies or readers on the constant change that Religious Life has been going through and is still experiencing. These reflections have been now translated into English from the original Italian or Spanish and put together and made available to all persons in Religious Life, especially those who are English-speaking. Editorial decisions were not taken just for the sake of style in itself. Rather, they were taken in line with the awareness of the true “kairòs” moment that Religious Life is in according to Fr Chávez, and which he instilled in his original audience. It is hoped that such awareness is also instilled in the readers of the present book. In the Preface, Fr Chávez gives a short account of the history of Religious Life throughout the centuries so as to put his readers in context. Arriving to the present moment, he writes: “Although reaffirming this constant change within Consecrated Life, however we must also affirm that since Vatican Council II, it is being called to a profound renewal by returning to its sources –...

Reclaiming Vatican II

During the past five decades, the Second Vatican Council has been alternately celebrated or maligned for its supposed break with tradition and embrace of the modern world. But what if we’ve gotten it all wrong?Have Catholics—both those who embrace the spirit of Vatican II and those who regard it with suspicion—misunderstood what the council was really about?Fr. Blake Britton discovered the truth and beauty of the council while he was in seminary and he has witnessed firsthand the power of its teachings in the life of his own parish. In Reclaiming Vatican II—a partnership between Ave Maria Press and Word on Fire Catholic Ministries— Fr. Britton presses beyond the political narrative foisted upon the post-conciliar Church and contends that Vatican II was neither conservative nor liberal, but something much more beautiful and challenging.Watch the short video here: books.wordonfire.org/reclaiming.Fr. Britton clears up misconceptions about the council and reveals how—when properly understood and applied—it fosters a richer experience of being in the Church.Fr. Britton says Vatican II promotes a radical return to the Church Fathers and the Scriptures, holding both a commitment to tradition and the need for constant renewal in life-giving balance, recenters the Church on sacred liturgy and encourages both active participation...

RECLAIMING VATICAN II: WHAT IT (REALLY) SAID…

Friends,I am happy to share with you a new book from Word on Fire, Reclaiming Vatican II: What It (Really) Said, What It Means, and How It Calls Us to Renew the Church. The Second Vatican Council was one of the most significant cultural and ecclesiastical events of the twentieth century. Though practically everyone acknowledges its importance, Catholics have been debating its precise meaning and application for the past sixty years. Consequently, the great missionary vision of Vatican II remains largely unrealized.Fr. Blake Britton’s new book, Reclaiming Vatican II, shows how to recover it, primarily by returning to the council’s four major constitutions. Fr. Britton is an able guide, radiant and thoughtful, with an infectious joy and love for the council. He stands on the vanguard of a new generation tasked with finally bringing the council’s vision to fruition.I warmly commend this book to anyone wanting to understand Vatican II, but especially to young Catholics confused about the council and those skeptical about its relevance today: books.wordonfire.org/reclaiming.Peace,+ Bishop Robert...
