International Conference on Fr Paolo Albera – Recording & Materials Available Online

02 November 2021 (ANS – Rome) – The two days, 30-31 October 2021 – of the International Conference dedicated to Rector Major Fr Paolo Albera on the first centenary of his death (29 October 1921) was held in precise manner as planned. Organized by the Salesian Historical Institute – the Istituto Storico Salesiano (ISS) – at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS), the conference was promoted by the current Rector Major Fr Ángel Fernández Artime. The reports of the first day analyzed the operational guidelines and the results of the governing action of Fr Albera as Rector Major with a look also at the historical period he lived and on the progress of the Salesian houses in America that he visited at the beginning of the century. The second day was dedicated to the presentation of the spiritual guidelines he gave, both to the Salesians and to the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), to the reception of the Code of Canon Law in the Salesian Constitutions, and to the image of Fr Albera in the Salesian Bulletin. Ongoing formation of the Salesian Family: Talk by Fr Pascual Chávez   Turin, Italy – October 2021 – On Sunday 17 October, as part of the Day of the Salesian Cooperators held at the Auditorium in Valdocco, an ongoing formation session for the Salesian Family was held with the animative inputs of Fr Pascual Chávez Villanueva, Rector Major Emeritus. His keynote address centered on the Encyclical Letter Laudato sì by Pope Francis and also deepened the eighth post-chapter guide line delivered to the Congregation by the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime: “Accompanying young people towards a SUSTAINABLE FUTURE”. International Convention on Fr. Paul Albera

26 October 2021 (ANS – Rome) – An International Convention dedicated to Fr Paul Albera, Don Bosco’s 2nd successor at the head of the Congregation, will take place on 30 – 31 October to commemorate the first centenary of his death (as he died at Turin-Valdocco, 29 October 1921). Promoted and organized by the Salesian Historical Institute (ISS) and the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in this special year that the Rector Major has dedicated to Fr Albera, the conference will be held in mixed mode, with participation in physical presence at UPS and via live streaming with English translation of the work shops. The Seminar will begin in the mid-afternoon of Saturday 30 (14:00 – UTC+2) with the inaugural address of the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr. Stefano Martoglio, followed by the introduction note of the coordinator, Fr. Francesco Motto, a member of the ISS. “It’s time for GC28”: Rector Major’s 2nd video on 6-year roadmap is available

  (ANS – Rome) – In December 2020, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, inaugurated a series of videos entitled “It’s time for GC28”, designed with the aim of deepening the eight Program Lines for the new six years contained in the document “Post-Chapter Reflections”. As already mentioned, the initiative provides for the publication of a video approximately every three months, thus completing, within a couple of years, the presentation of all eight program guidelines. “The second programmatic line for the whole Congregation,” the Rector Major begins in the video, “says this: it is urgent for us to really put into action the DA MIHI ANIMAS, CETERA TOLLE”. Never as in these times, continues the Successor of Don Bosco, is it necessary to have the ability to accompany young people on their respective paths of growth and to be, for them, witnesses of the Faith. LORD, HELP ME NEVER STOP BEING AMAZED OR BECOME INURED TO REALITY

Foto: Kenya 2017 «This is my prayer after having visited over 100 nations around the world where there are Salesian presences… and where I came to know realities that are so incredible, fascinating, precious, and often times so painful». Cordial greetings, my friends and readers. Surely, we have begun 2021 with a strong desire that it be a better year than the previous one. Perhaps there is still much fear, but perhaps we also feel deep down that we have to cultivate Hope because it does us good and helps us to live better and more meaningful lives. On the last Sunday of January we celebrated the Feast of Don Bosco. This also took place in a different way from previous years because the pandemic has not yet disappeared and continues to condition our life. Still, even in this situation we have to know how to see the light and the buds of Hope that are present. It is in this context that I chose these reflections to share with you this month.
