RSVP TO ATTEND VIRTUALLY OR IN-PERSON: contact@donboscosalesianportal.org Mary Help of Christians Academy 659 Belmont Avenue North Haledon, NJ 07508 In brief, Di BOSCo began as a job-training project created by Mr. Phaisan, a Salesian Past Pupil in Thailand, as a way to give back for all he had received from the Salesians. When Mr. Peter Kovac, Slovakian Salesian Past Pupil and secretary of the SDB Past Pupil World Council, came to know of this project, he organized an alliance with Mr. Phaisan to grow Di BOSCo into a world-wide network of Past Pupil fair trade coffee and cocoa growers, processors, exporters, and café owners in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. Now Di BOSCo is ready to come to Canada and the US with the help of our Salesian Family members and friends. Peter will explain how this network came to be and how we can make it a reality for North America at this gathering. For whom is the gathering? Fr Caputa introduces Simone Srugi

09 April 2021 Simone Srugi, second from the left (ANS – Beitgemal) – The Salesian Fr Giovanni Caputa, former professor of Theology in Cremisan and Jerusalem (1980-2017), has since 2014 been a collaborator in the cause of beatification of Venerable Simone Srugi, a Salesian brother who was a central figure for the Salesians of the Middle East. Fr Caputa recently wrote a new book in Italian on Simone Srugi (Simone Srugi nella storia di Betgamāl), and today he illustrates the history of the Venerable and the value of this publication. It is not your first book on Srugi. What’s new in this one? In 2018 I published Vita e scritti di Simone Srugi (Life and Writings), which contains all the documentation. In this last book, I better frame one and the others in their historical context, that is, the hundred years between the reconstitution of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem (1847) and the partition of Palestine (1947). It was part of a region that during that century completely changed aspect, from a political, socio-economic, cultural and religious point of view … The maps and the “photo gallery”, which complete the volume, help to offer a better picture. Against that background, the life...

A Good Samaritan in Salesian Style – Brother Artemides Zatti

By our own correspondent Salesian world, 3 November 2020 — Some 44 years ago a Jesuit provincial in Argentina, Fr Jorge Maria Bergoglio, asked his confreres to pray through the intercession of Salesian Brother Artemide Zatti to obtain more new Jesuit Brother vocations. And already in those times, Brother Zatti ‘did the miracles’ and the Jesuits, a few years later, had dozens of solid Brothers in their province. Yes, Blessed Artemide Zatti is not just an ‘asset’ of the Salesian Family, he is among those many Saints – Blesseds – Venerables – declared by the Universal Church as models we follow and as our intercessors on our journey in this world. November 13, the liturgical memory of Brother Artemide Zatti is coming up. Maybe it’s a good chance for personal or community novena prayer for new Salesian Brother vocations. We already have many tools at hand (see Boscolink) including a Quiz, Biography, short movie and many photos. Blessed Artemide Zatti, pray for us! Short life-sketch of Blessed Artemide Zatti: 1880: Born in Boretto (Italy) three children, mother Albina Vecchi, father Luigi Zatti 1887: Sacrament of confirmation 1886: Elementary school (3 years only) in Boretto, while already working in the farm...
