Towards the 152nd Salesian Missionary Expedition: Daniel Glass

(ANS – Rome) – Daniel Glass is a young American, 33-years-old, who grew up in the Province of the United States East and Canada (SUE) but destined for the Province of Africa Congo Congo (ACC). He is the second missionary to be featured in ANS in view of the 152nd Salesian Missionary Expedition (Turin-Valdocco, 21 November 2021). Speaking of what prompted him to become a missionary, he states: “Two things, above all: to be completely available to the Rector Major to fill in and go where the Congregation might need me the most; and the desire to serve God above all else. Because being sent away from your home province and comfort zone is that step into the unknown that can bring out a great leap of faith and a deeper dependence on God. Did you choose the destination or was it assigned to you? Are you happy with it? In some ways, the Congo was certainly my choice, but directly -No! It was not! Orientation Course for New Missionaries – including our own Br. Dan Glass

09 November 2021 Rome, RMG – November 2021 – The preparation of the departing missionaries for the 152nd Missionary Expedition is currently underway. Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions, only 8 of the 23 members of this year’s missionary expedition have arrived in Rome. Maybe three more will be able to come in the over the next few days. In the meantime, the Orientation Course for New Missionaries in the Salesian Headquarters began on 4 November, animated by the team of the Missions Sector. After the introductory sessions and the meeting with the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, they will reach Colle Don Bosco for the second part of the course. Eventually, when it becomes easier to travel, a special course will be organized for missionaries who have not been able to attend the present course. The official dispatch of the SDB and FMA missionaries will take place on November 21 in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians. After the celebration, the missionary cross of those who were unable to participate will be sent to their Provincials, who will hand it over in the name of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime. New Missionaries: Strength and Weakness Go Together

02 November 2021 (ANS – Rome) – “It gives us great joy to see the 23 new missionaries who form the 152nd Salesian Missionary Expedition: we thank the Lord for this great gift. We know that it is not at all easy, especially in the last two years, to opt to be a missionary ad gentes and, often having to wait many months before actually being able to leave. As always, a missionary is required to be strong, robust and humble because such high expectations from so many are placed on his shoulders,” says Fr Pavel Ženíšek, SDB, a member of the Sector for the Missions, in a reflection on the missions with an eye on the map of the Salesian missionaries of the forthcoming Salesian Missionary Expedition. Fr Ženíšek continues his reasoning: “What if, despite sincere discernment and honest preparation, he does not come up to the expectations; what if he does not make it? What do we do? Pope Francis’ prayer intention this month is for those suffering from depression or burnout. (Let us pray that people suffering from depression or burnout will find support and a light from all to open them to life). The General Councilor for Youth...
