Views 5 Comment 0 By Our Own Correspondent EAO 16 January 2019 — In each of the 90 Salesian provinces around the world we are already used to celebrating Salesian Family Day with meaning. The annual world level ‘Salesian Family Days’ started in 1973 and since 2017 are being held at Valdocco, Turin. What makes the difference? You can ask the 360 participants who spent 4 days at Valdocco. This year also 21 EAO participants from Irak-Australia, Timor Leste (East Timor) – Ireland, China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam were among them. What are the fruits of the world level ‘Salesian Family Spirituality Days’? One of the 2019 SF Days EAO participants expressed this strong conviction: “During the language group sharing we spoke again and again of our profound gratitude for the gift of the Salesian Family! We pledged to live our religious life in the future with a deeper identity as one Salesian Family! I personally want this too!” What does the presence of 21 SF members of EAO origin mean in this context? Three SDBs, two FMA Sisters, two SIHM Sisters and 14 Caritas of Jesus Sisters with one lay Friend of Don Bosco was probably the record for our...

Views 18 Comment 0 By Our Own Correspondent Valdocco, Italy, 10 January 2019 — Although not all of the 360 official participants and support staff of the 2019 Salesian Family Spirituality Days have arrived in Turin as yet, the four day program began on schedule at 4:45 p.m. in the Grand Valdocco Theatre. After the official greeting by Fr Enrico Stasi (SDB provincial of ICP, hosting province), Fr Eusebio Munoz (Delegate of the RM for the Salesian Family), the late afternoon program introduced the Strenna 2019 ‘Holiness For You Too” (So that my joy may be in you – John 15:11). The Dance group ‘Adonai’ presented the theme with their dances and music in a vibrant way and then came the 19 minute official Strenna 2019 Video shown in Italian. It came time for the Rector Major to highlight the main focus of this year’s Strenna with a power point presentation: Fr Ángel explained the meaning and background of the Strenna 2019, beginning with the 2018 World Advisory Council (aka ‘Consulta’) meeting of the Salesian Family, when most of the leaders suggested the theme of ‘Holiness’. Among the short comments emerged one challenging question: ‘How is it that so many saints were...
