Today’s Couples Can Look to Joseph & Mary

Last month, we celebrated a gem of a feast, although one that is lesser known; the “Feast of the Espousal of Mary and Joseph”, also referred to as the “Feast of the Holy Spouses.” A feast in honor of the Espousal of Mary and Joseph was first celebrated on August 29, 1517, when Pope Leo […] Source: Today’s Couples Can Look to Joseph & MaryShare this:Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new...

Aleteia’s Sunday homily: When our families feel very far from the Holy Family

Jesus chose, for a time in his life, to make himself completely dependent on his parents. Mary, and Joseph, her spouse, bore all the responsibilities of caring for an infant. While the Virgin Mary … Source: Aleteia’s Sunday homily: When our families feel very far from the Holy FamilyShare this:Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new...

The Holy Family – EWTN Reflection

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. First reading:  Sirach 3: 2-7, 12-14 Psalm: 128: 1-5 Second reading: Colossians 3: 12-21 Gospel:  St. Matthew 2: 13-15, 19-23 Here is a link to today’s readings. In today’s gospel from St. Matthew, we see St. Joseph protecting Mary and newborn Jesus from Herod, by obeying the angel of the Lord and fleeing by night to Egypt.  Perhaps the angel was the same Messenger who had told Joseph that Mary had conceived by the Holy Spirit.  The angel also notifies Joseph of the death of Herod and warns him about Herod’s son, so that Joseph moves the Holy Family far to the north, in Nazareth of Galilee. Each of these instructions to St. Joseph happened in dreams. And in each case, we see Joseph obey promptly.  Earlier in his gospel, St. Matthew describes Joseph as a “just man,” one poised to obey God’s will―even when he did not fully understand it.   Very simply, Joseph hears, he trusts, and he obeys. How much do we really trust in God, who time and again has demonstrated His care and trustworthiness by delivering on His promises?
