09 August 2023 (ANS – Lisbon) – During the World Youth Day just concluded in Lisbon, the Italian Bishops’ Conference set up a stand for vocations in the “City of Joy”, “a space of silence in the celebration of young people”. Images of the faces of different people – more or less known ones – were posted on the walls of the stand. Next to it, a QR code. By scanning it with your smartphone, you could read the biography of the chosen person. The QR code referred to the website of the Vocations magazine that tells their stories. Each young person was also offered a brick on which to write their name to convey a message to the children: the story is built by each taking their own small step and offering their own contribution. “A vocation is unique, the bricks are all the same, white and made of wood. Then, they all become different and colourful. A sign that seeks to tell the work of the Spirit, “said Fr Michele Gianola, director of the Vocation Ministry National Office. Among the numerous figures presented were several from our Salesian Family or related to it, whose profile was drawn up for the Vocations magazine...

Dear friends of The Pope Video, Pope Francis, quoting Saint John Paul II, tells us, “If you live with young people, you become young yourself, and the Church needs young people.” Thus begins the video with the prayer intention for August, produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, in which Pope Francis responds directly to questions posed by a few young people. In his responses, he also reminds them to follow Mary’s example, who, “as soon as she knew she was going to be the mother of God, didn’t stay there taking a selfie or showing off. The first thing she did was to set out on a journey, in haste, to serve.” And he concludes the video with the desire that this WYD be “a seed for the world’s future. A world where love is at the center, where we can sense that we are sisters and brothers.” “Let us pray that the World Youth Day in Lisbon will help young people to set out on the journey, witnessing to the Gospel with their own lives.” Share the video on Facebook “I would also like to invite you to join in the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, which spreads,...

03 February 2022 (ANS – Lisbon) – In preparation for World Youth Day (WYD) 2023, which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, the Salesian Youth Movement has launched “WYD DON BOSCO 23”, the organization responsible for the convocation and participation of young people from various Salesian circles around the world at WYD in Lisbon 2023. In inviting young people to live and experience WYD Lisbon 2023 according to Don Bosco’s charism, WYD DON BOSCO 23 also wants to accompany all the initiatives, dynamism and moments planned for the Day, as well as highlight, on a particular day, the “SYM Day”, all its youth and associative dimension. “WYD DON BOSCO 2023”, as a motto, comes from the combination of three elements: the acronym in English that refers to World Youth Day, with its meaningful similarity to the term “with” in English; St. John Bosco, commonly called “Don Bosco”, as the unifying force of the Salesian Family; and the date of the meeting. It wants to be a sort of brand that identifies the Salesian Youth Movement and that motivates young people to walk the path that awaits them as a pilgrimage, that strengthens their faith and is able to question others,...

By Gabriella Ceraso A song is being developed to journey together towards World Youth Day in Lisbon 2023. The lyrics are ready and draw inspiration from the theme of WYD 2021: “Stand up. I appoint you as a witness of what you have seen” (from Acts 26:16). The new song is entitled “Jesus says to me: Get up!” and it will become the soundtrack of the World Day that will be celebrated in the local churches and dioceses this November 21, the Feast of Christ the King, according to the plans established by Pope Francis. It is not an official hymn, but one more element to help spread among young people the Lord’s invitation to “Stand up (arise).” This marks...

04 October 2021 Photo ©: Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life (ANS – Rome) – On 22 November 2020 Pope Francis called for a relaunch of the celebration of WYD in the particular Churches. He announced that this celebration which has been traditionally held on Palm Sunday, starting in 2021 will be held on the Sunday of the Solemnity of Christ the King. On 14 September 2021, in his message for the WYD 2021, he invited all the young people to “ARISE” presenting the reflections on the conversion story of St. Paul. He also appreciated the contribution of young people during the pandemic days of sowing seeds of hope, upholding freedom and justice, and acting as peacemakers and bridge builders. He is convinced that today Christ speaks to the young people the same words that he spoke to Paul: ‘Arise! Do not remain downcast or caught up in yourself: a mission awaits you! You too can testify to what Jesus has begun to accomplish in your lives’. Following the message of Pope Francis, the Councillor for Youth Ministry Fr Miguel Angel Garcia Morcuende, along with the coordinator for Salesian Youth Movement Fr Patrick Anthonyraj, invite and encourage all the young...
