PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

WORD of the DAY

Whoever does the will of my Father who is in Heaven, is my brother, sister, and mother.  (Matthew 12: 50)

How shall I live this Word?

Doing the will of the Father: what does it mean? The thought brings us back to Luke 11:28, “But he said, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and observe it!” The Church reminds us of this today during the acclamation to the Gospel. In order to do the Father’s will, it is first of all necessary to listen. And God speaks continuously, even today. The Bible is His Word written by Him, as if they were letters sent by Him to us, to you, to me, at this moment. But to listen to Him we must be silent and proceed according to the methodology most suited to us. If we do not understand the letter that God sends us, He sends many of them every day also through the biblical passages of the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours. We need to ask someone for help to guide us in understanding what he wants to tell us.

Sr. Maria Pia Giudici, the Daughter of Mary Help of Christians who began the work in San Biagio House of Prayer from which the commentary on the Word starts every day, leaves us precisely this as a legacy: learning to listen to God in His Word through inner silence. After having illustrated the text with the methodology of the Lectio, she invited silence to grasp God’s personal message and observe it when one returned to one’s daily life environment, “to do the Father’s will”, to be “brother, sister, and mother” of Jesus.

Lord, give me the strength and perseverance to listen to and put Your will into practice.

The Voice of Sr. Maria Pia Giudici

Especially today many young people say we need silence. Too many words jousting within the calculation of making money, too many realities linked to the imperative: buy, consume, throw away, and then take it back. All of this the brightest and most intelligent young people deprecate and desire something different.”

(Interview of 9 May 2019 broadcast on TV2000 for the program Siamo Noi.).
