EPIPHANY OF THE LORD JESUS
WORD of the DAY
They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2: 10-11)
How shall I live this Word?
These three mysterious men came from afar following a star. They had scrutinized the skies during the tepid Oriental nights. They were not afraid to undertake a journey to unknown lands. They gave themselves up to a call from Beyond. At their arrival in Bethlehem, they intuit the sacred, although hidden in the poverty and littleness of a Baby. To Him, as to a king, they offer their precious gifts. Above all, they offer their immense joy for having found the treasure their soul had sought for so long. They are truly wise and pure of heart, this is why they see God. They seem to anticipate what the little Messiah, when an adult, would proclaim as the marvelous Beatitude: Blessed are the pure of heart for they will see God.
Lord Jesus, maintain a pure heart in me, open to Your calls and able to discover You along life’s journey.
The Voice of St. Augustine
Our life consists in this: to exercise ourselves with desire. Let us dilate ourselves with the desire for Him, so that He can fill us when He comes. Therefore, let us live of desire so that we may be filled.
