Feast of the Holy Family

WORD of the DAY

And his commandment is this: we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another just as he commanded us. (1 John 3: 23)

How shall I live this Word?

This is His commandment: that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and we love one another, according to the precept that He has given us.
To say that Christianity is full of inhibitions is really not only false but opposed to the truth. What God in fact commands coincides with what human beings of every age have considered the good par excellence: to be loved and to be able to love.
Yes, the essential thing is to open your heart to believe in the Son of God Jesus Christ who, in His Mystery of Incarnation, Passion, Death, and Resurrection, has loved through His divine initiative.
He not only redeemed us from sin but came to show us how our most ardent and profound thirst finds the most credible answer precisely in Christ Jesus. Through His infinite love, He accepted unutterable opprobrium to the point of the infamous scaffold of the cross.
Just by keeping in our mind and heart the living memory of this Mystery where love touches the acme of possibilities, we become people who live the continuous precious apprenticeship of gratuitous love. Wonderful! It is therefore evident that the precept of love coincides precisely with what has always been our goal, what we all yearn for: to be loved and to love.

Lord, I live if I love my neighbor. Make me convinced of this in the drama of my life. Do not allow me to wait for gratuitous manifestations of love without a serious effort on my part to live showing this love to others, especially to those closest to me.
