HOLY SATURDAY April 20, 2019

WORD of the DAY

The descent into hell is the ultimate consequence of incarnation. The first Son was in Himself a simple God, pure immensity. Then He became human, thousands of relationships with others, thousands of states, efforts, and changing temporal initiatives, experienced all this in a fleeting destiny, in something without boundaries, which was always available to the infinity of the Father. Now He still lacks the knowledge of pure not-being God, of pure opposition to God, so to speak, of mere limitations in limitlessness.

In the mystery of Holy Saturday the most disparate and opposite mysteries meet and intertwine in a way that is never definitively perceived, forming a unitary fabric that intends to show us how perfect and total the redemption of humanity is. It is the mystery of death as the Son lives together with the divinity of the Trinity. It is the mystery of the communion of the Son in the underworld, accompanied by the Father and the Spirit. It is the mystery of human sin incorporated into its eternal aspect with the world of the dead. It is the mystery of the return of the Son to the Father according to this concrete way and in no other way. It is the way in which men and women attend redemptive death in a grace that gives them faith, which awaits the gift of resurrection to participate in its full vitality.
