FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
November 27, 2017
34th Monday in Ordinary Time
WORD of the DAY
And he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood. (Luke 21: 2-4)
How shall I live this Word?
As He is praying, the Lord observes the gesture of a poor woman who is making her offering at the Temple. After the contributions loudly proclaimed by the rich, the widow silently throws in her few cents. It was all she had to live on. Jesus’ voice resounds timely and deep. He recognizes the attitude of evangelical minority, so dear to Him, the precious truth of a total and gratuitous gift. What God expects of us is the total gift of ourselves.
The Voice of Prayer
Lord God, You see the heart of those who give and judge on the basis of the love that animates it. Teach us to be generous and to offer You, not our superfluous, but a part of our life, thus preparing for the total gift of ourselves after the example of Your Son Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
