Week 1 of Ordinary Time

WORD of the DAY

In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets, in these last days, he spoke to us through the son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe”. (Hebrews 1: 1)

How shall I live this Word?
We begin the Ordinary Time of the Liturgy again with the Letter to the Hebrews. The first verses remind us of the definitive fulfillment of the revelation of God in Jesus Christ. The history of God’s revelation to humanity begins with His chosen people, is interwoven with the unfolding of the promise, and is accomplished in Jesus Christ, the Word of God made flesh. The promise is incarnated in the long-awaited Messiah who realizes liberation, builds salvation, and gives it to all people. In Him, the promised gift manifests itself as universal, dedicated to all of humanity, and able to arouse the desire for gift, for the response of every person, of every time.

Lord, the Good News of Jesus has gone beyond all boundaries and today is meeting witnesses and martyrs in every latitude. Give strength to the persecuted Christians and give to those in peace the grace of living fully and passionately Your grace, bought at such great price.

The Voice of Vatican Council II – Dei Verbum 4
Therefore He, seeing who is also seen by the Father (see Jn 14: 9), by the very fact of His presence and by the manifestation which He makes Himself with words and deeds, with signs and with miracles, and especially with His death and resurrection from the dead, and finally with the sending of the Spirit of truth, He accomplishes and completes the Revelation and corroborates it with divine witness that God is with us to free us from the darkness of sin and death and resurrect us for eternal life.
