Remain faithful to Jesus.

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD

March 31, 2021

WEDNESDAY OF HOLY WEEK

WORD of the DAY

One of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot,  went to the chief priests and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” …When it was evening, he reclined at table with the Twelve. And while they were eating, he said,  “Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” …Then Judas, his betrayer, said in reply, “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?”
He answered, “You have said so.”             (Matthew 26: 14-15,20-22, 25)

How shall I live this Word?

Jesus is free in  giving   Himself, He does not hold back. He himself indicates the place where He wants to meet us to declare His love for us and to hand over to us His Mystery, and He does so with tenderness and attention. At the same time, He firmly denounces the evil present in our heart.  “One of you will betray me”, unmasks the evil that inclines our heart to trade the truth, remaining a prisoner of limited and earthly logic. And the question that crosses the lips of all the disciples passes like a double-edged sword also in our heart, in our mind. With my feelings, my thoughts, my omissions, Am I choosing Jesus?

“Surely it is not I, Lord?”

The Voice of  Pope Francis, Meditation 27 March 2013

Judas, one of Jesus’ friends, does not hesitate to sell Him to the chief priests. Jesus is like merchandise: He is sold. He is sold in that moment and also many times in the marketplaces of history, in the marketplaces of life, in the marketplaces of our life… When you go to an acquaintance and talk becomes gossip, backbiting, this is a sale and the person at the center of our gossip becomes a commodity… We should think that every time we behave like this, we do the same thing that Judas did, who when he went to the chief priests to sell Jesus, had a closed heart, had no understanding, had no love, had no friendship… Let us think and ask forgiveness, because what we do to others, to friends, we do to Jesus. Because Jesus is in this friend.”
