WORD of the DAY

Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?. (John 14: 8-10)

How shall I live this Word?
Philip is a man of great faith. Like Moses, he asks to see the face of God. He seeks only to see that face which all the believers of the old covenant had desired to see. Philip confesses this desire but Jesus answers him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?”
This is the ultimate revelation. Whoever sees Jesus, the man Jesus, in reality sees the Father. “God is encountered in the man Jesus”, affirm many seekers of the Absolute, “in His humanity we can see God, looking at the action of Jesus and listening to His words we can meet God. This is the specific, the uniqueness of the Christian faith: scandal for every religious way, folly for every human wisdom”.

The Voice of St. Ignatius of Loyola

Oh Christ, grant that I may know You intimately, and as the companion of Your cross, may I rise with You!
