FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
SECOND TUESDAY OF ADVENT
December 10, 2019
WORD of the DAY
What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. (Matthew 18: 12-13)
How shall I live this Word?
What a strange way of reasoning: is it better to risk losing the ninety-nine sheep I still have, leaving them alone in the mountains, or finding the one sheep I lost?
Jesus has no doubts and decides, using not the logic of the world, the logic of profit and finance, but the logic of love. It is the logic of those who love everyone without distinction and do not want to lose anyone, because in God’s eyes everyone is precious, important, dear. For each one He gave His life, for everyone, even for those who are wretched, sinful, evil. God loves everyone with an infinite love, for each one He became human, and for everyone He died on the cross .
How can we then throw away our existence for nonsense, for superficiality, for a little pleasure? Our life is a great, serious gift, a gift that is worth the very life of our Redeemer.
Come Lord Jesus, teach me to love every instant of my life and to live every moment, even though it may be sad or painful, with intensity and fullness! Come, help me to not waste even a minute of my time.
The voice of Chiara Luce Badano, a young Saint
What is important is doing God’s will. Perhaps I had plans for myself, but God thought of this instead. My sickness arrived at the right moment…I am aware that God is asking me for something more, bigger. Perhaps, I could remain on this bed for years…I do not know. The will of God is all that interests me, to do that well, in the present moment: to remain in God’s game-plan.
