WORD of the DAY

He remained for two full years in his lodgings. He received all who came to him, and with complete assurance and without hindrance he proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 28: 30-31 )

How shall I live this Word?

We are at the end of reading the Acts and we are at the end of Paul’s story. Amid a thousand troubles he arrived in Rome. He arrived there ‘forced’, and not by his own free will, sent by God. He arrived in chains, a prisoner, because the only way to make that journey was to transform the hatred and opposition of his countrymen and coreligionists who accused him and wanted him in jail and dead. Paul is the means by which the Gospel will reach Rome, then the heart of the world. His chains, his body, therefore his intelligence, his words will bring Jesus beyond the geographical and cultural boundaries of Palestine and will give the experience of Christ’s universality. His prison has walls that constrain him, but they are walls like those of the Cenacle, crossed by the resurrected body of Jesus. Walls that do not block, do not stop; in fact without impediment, Paul proclaims the kingdom and the things concerning Jesus, the Lord.

Lord, our every prison can be transformed into opportunities for proclamation. Help us to see beyond the obstacle, the impediments that block us. Help us to have courage and to transform the fear that chains us into the power of new evangelization and of building a new humanity.

The Voice of the Sequence of the Holy Spirit
Give to your faithful,
those who trust in you,
the seven-fold gifts.
Grant the reward of virtue,
grant the deliverance
of salvation, grant eternal joy.
