WORD of the DAY

On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
I have told you this in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures but I will tell you clearly about the Father. On that day you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father. (John 16: 23-28 )

How shall I live this Word?
Unlike all the other teachers, gurus, and scholars in the history of humanity, Jesus has not simply left us an illustrious example of good conduct or a program of life. He did much more: He gave us the opportunity to enter into the mystery of His own sonship, to be a co-participant in His being the Son of God, to become one with Him and thus raise a welcome supplication to the Father, because only in Him was the Father pleased. Thus, precisely through the experience of detachment and suffering, the inequality that could make us look up to the Lord from below with a hesitant and fearful look, is abolished. Jesus, the only-begotten Son of God and the first-born of the resurrected, comes to invite us into the ranks of all the redeemed, to tell us that there is also a place for us, that the glory obtained in the cross is the condition given to all those who are willing to let themselves be invaded by this mystery.

In relationships between humans, asking means lowering and renouncing one’s self-sufficiency. But when we ask the Lord we must keep in mind that He takes us seriously, and that He is willing to answer our authentic request. Today we want to stop to contemplate the greatness in which we are participating, and in formulating our request to God, we can be certain that He does not degrade us but is ready to answer us immediately.
