FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
Sixth Wednesday of Easter Time

WORD of the DAY
I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. (John 16: 12-15 )
How shall I live this Word?
Not everything can be said, and not everything can be said immediately. The strength of the word can be disruptive, but it needs to find a terrain capable of welcoming it and making it take root. The testimony of Jesus does not find greater efficacy in the signs that He is able to accomplish, but in arousing an internal correspondence in us when the voice of the Master is recognized by a presence that already lives within us. And so the Spirit, whom we have already received and through whom we have filial adoption, attests to us from within that the words of Jesus are true and persuasive. But it is not enough: what we received once and for all sacramentally, needs a continuous, updated adhesion on our part, so that the intellect and the will welcome such novelty every day, and arrive at the decision to correspond to the love of God.
The exercise that I will do today will be to humbly recognize my limitations, to see that not everything depends on my commitment and that the moments of spiritual dryness are natural to my humanity. It will therefore be a mature and wise choice also to let the Lord decide the timing of the encounter, to let Him pace the phases of my journey of faith.
The Voice of Albert Vanhoye, Exegete
Having God as father is precisely what leads to faith in Jesus. When one has God as father, we feel carried by a true co-naturalness towards the one sent by God. We recognize the accent of His voice and feel intimately in harmony with His words that express God’s design.
