WORD of the DAY

This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. (John 15: 12-15)

How shall I live this Word?

How important for us, helped by the Holy Spirit, to be able to penetrate these words of Christ Jesus! In fact, they give us the deep persuasion that, in this last greeting to His own whom He was about to leave, the Lord expresses all the power and preciousness of a recommendation that is not coercion, but rather a demand of love. The fact of having been chosen and sent to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel is correlated with the certainty that it will bring salvation to many. This will also be due to the prayer of Jesus to the Father, when He Himself is living it and making it acceptable to Him.
From this flows the conclusion of what Jesus is saying. He reveals that what most matters to the Father is what He is asking of them: to love each other. Is not this the apex, the summary of what most counts in life here on earth? Yes, loving each other, wanting the good of each other, always seeking what brings light and joy to the heart, to each other.
This is the profound truth, the essential and irreplaceable value of our identity as women and men here.
