FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
St. Barnabas, Apostle

WORD of the DAY
As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give. Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep. Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave. As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you.
(Matthew 10: 7-13 )
How shall I live this Word?
The life of a Christian is never neutral or insignificant. It may perhaps not shine, not substantiate itself with amazing actions and exceptional gestures, but it certainly stands out due to the unmistakable perfume that it spreads around itself. Words can be few or modest, but every gesture radiates flashes of renewal, attention, proximity, moderation, essentiality, simplicity. Everything speaks of a Christian, and actions translate a language that does not place any kind of barrier between peoples, cultures, mentalities, belonging. The wealth that the Lord deposits in a convert spreads naturally and reaches everyone. Whoever has low ‘immune defenses’ is the first to get infected but is infected by a remedy that will transform him/her into a better person. We hope to ‘get sick’ soon of this singular virus capable of grafting principles of new life onto us!
Aware of the gift that is given to me in faith, today I ask in prayer for the willingness to proclaim the kingdom of heaven whenever the occasion arises, at the right time, and even if not appropriate, according to the ways the Lord will inspire me.
The Voice of St. Basil the Great
” Those who believe in the Lord and present themselves as ready for discipleship, must first move away from all sin, and then also from all the things that distract from the obedience due to the Lord, even if they seem to appear reasonable ”.
