FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
Second Monday of Easter Time
St. Catherine of Siena
April 29, 2019
WORD of the DAY
Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. (Matthew 25: 1)
How shall I live this Word?
Reading the life of Catherine is like being overwhelmed by a dynamism of love and courage that amazes in this fragile woman: the last of the numerous Benincasa family. She is truly the prudent virgin of the Gospel, who managed to keep her lamp lit, despite the long and tiring wait for the Bridegroom.
Drowned in the blood of Christ, she was not afraid to oppose the enemies of the Church, the powerful of her time. Thirsty for God, she found all sacrifice light and showed heroic and tender care for the poorest and most suffering.
Although centuries have passed since her life on earth, she remains for us a fiery point of reference. She teaches us strength and perseverance in everyday life. She also indicates to us the great spaces of truth and justice.
The Voice of St. Catherine of Siena
Place Christ crucified as your aim; hide yourself in the wounds of the crucified Christ; drown yourself in the blood of the crucified Christ. And do not delay, nor wait for time, because time does not wait for you.
