Wait for the Lord

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD 34th Saturday of Ordinary Time November 28, 2020 WORD of the DAY  Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise  like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth. Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.      (Luke 21: 34-36) How shall I live this Word?   We have reached the end of the liturgical year, the season of Advent begins tomorrow. The invitation that Jesus once again addresses to His followers is vigilance to be ready to welcome Him at the moment of His return. “Watch … be careful … that your hearts do not become heavy”. The Desert Fathers, great spiritual teachers of the first centuries, argued that there can be no prayer without vigilance of the heart. Vigilance in turn goes hand in hand with attention.
