First Monday of Lent

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD First Monday of LENT March 2, 2020 WORD of the DAY The Lord said to Moses: Speak to the whole Israelite community and tell them: Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy. (Leviticus 19: 1-2) How shall I live this Word? Be holy, be happy, because I am happy. But why should we and how can we be happy? Maybe because we are healthy? So what about the testimony of Paolo Palumbo who at the San Remo Festival showed us holiness with the face of a seriously ill person who thanks and rejoices for the gift of life? Maybe because we are rich? So why do the many African children who play football with a tin can or a ball of rags in the dusty streets of their countries have eyes that laugh with joy? Maybe because we are powerful? So what do the many missionaries who leave comfortable situations to be happy among the the least of the earth tell us? So what does holiness consist of?
