Fifth Thursday in Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Thursday, February 8, 2018 WORD of the DAY   He said to her, “Let the children be fed first.  For it is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.”  She replied and said to him, “Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.”  Then he said to her, “For saying this, you may go. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”  When the woman went home, she found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.     (Mark 7: 28-30) How shall I live this Word? The heart of today’s event is not so much the word of Jesus that perhaps leaves us somewhat perplexed, but the response of the woman, a foreigner, not a Jew, who had intuited and recognized the bread of divine mercy through the story of the miracles previously worked by the Teacher.  Out of this huge abundance profusely given by Jesus to His people, ‘the children’, only need a few crumbs.  The lesson for us is that we are super-nourished by the Eucharistic bread, and yet we are indifferent before this marvelous gift that often...
