Fifth Friday of Lent

 FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Fifth Friday of Lent, March 23, 2018  WORD of the DAY   The Jews again picked up rocks to stone him.   Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of these are you trying to stone me?”  The Jews answered him, “We are not stoning you for a good work but for blasphemy. You, a man, are making yourself God.    (John 10: 31-33)   How shall I live this Word? We are at the last meeting/clash between Jesus and the Jews.  This is the reason for their condemnation: “We are not stoning you for a good work, but for blasphemy.  You, a man, are making yourself God”.   We hear the words of the serpent in Genesis, “God knows that when you eat it, you will open your eyes and become like God…” (Gen. 3: 5).  The human temptation to be like God is written in the heart of each one of us after the sin and continues to be the strongest temptation.
