  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Second Thursday of Easter, April 12, 2018 WORD of the DAY   But Peter and the apostles said in reply, “We must obey God rather than men.   The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree.  God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior to grant Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins.  We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit that God has given to those who obey him.” When they heard this, they became infuriated and wanted to put them to death.  (Acts 5: 29-33)   How shall I live this Word? “We must obey God instead of men” (v. 29). This word, which we find in the first reading taken from the book of the Acts of the Apostles, has never been as current as it is today. To the high priest, president of the Sanhedrin tribunal, an entirely new Peter after the Resurrection boldly proclaims, in the name of the other Apostles, the fundamental principle of the freedom of faith and of the coherence of life of Christians.
