FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD SECOND FRIDAY of EASTER TIME April 24, 2020 WORD of the DAY When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?” (John 6: 5) How shall I live this Word? A large crowd follows Jesus. Men, women, and children have walked behind the Master and are now tired and hungry. It seems impossible to find food for all those people. Instead of complaining about this really difficult situation, Andrew finds a boy with five loaves and two fish. Very little to satisfy the hunger of five thousand. So what to do? Jesus asks people to sit on the ground. Then He multiplies the food, the ration of the poor. The text says: “Then Jesus took the loaves and, after giving thanks, distributed them to those who had sat down, and He did the same with the fish, as much as they wanted.” With this phrase, written in the year 100 after Christ, John evokes the gesture of the Last Supper.
