Second Friday of Lent

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Second Friday of Lent, March 2, 2018 WORD of the DAY   Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes”?  (Mt. 21: 43) How shall I live this Word? The culture of waste is typical of our times.  There has never been so much trash to re-cycle in all of history.  We are a society that produces waste and has made of it a business, so many times illegally brought forward. The concept of waste has entered deeply into our mentality and has pervaded not only consumer objects but also people. We are born and can be assimilated into everything that is crushed by the “disposable” logic. The dynamic life-death that characterizes our humanity is interpreted not so much as generative, but as a possibility of selection, of rapid elimination: we are born, we function, we go forward; one is born, one does not function, one is eliminated.
