  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Thursday  May 24, 2018 Week 7 of Ordinary Time SOLEMNITY of MARY HELP OF CHRISTIANS For the Salesian Family  WORD of the DAY   Salt is good, but if salt becomes insipid, with what will you restore its flavor? Keep salt in yourselves and you will have peace with one another.   (Mark 9:  50)   How shall I live this Word? The Master has just finished speaking to his disciples on the subject of scandal and on the need to eliminate it by resorting even to “amputations”, to the elimination of all those elements that can provoke it. To avoid the destructive fire of Gehenna, the final outcome of our bad choices, we must be salted with another fire produced by the salt of the Spirit, which is in us as a taste of wisdom. The presence of the disciple in everyday life is compared by Christ to the presence of salt in food, which must not lose its flavor, that is, be contaminated by the spirit of the world.
