Tenth Saturday of Ordinary Time

 FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Saturday June 16, 2018      Week Ten of Ordinary Time         WORD of the DAY  Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please, let me kiss my father and mother good-bye and I will follow you.” Elijah answered, “Go back! What have I done to you?”  Elisha left him and, taking the yoke of oxen, slaughtered them; he used the plowing equipment for fuel to boil their flesh, and gave it to the people to eat. Then he left and followed Elijah to serve him. (1 Kings 19: 20)   How shall I live this Word? The story of Elijah generates the history and vocation of Elisha. Apparently, Elisha is an ordinary young man whom Elijah meets and calls. The generosity of Elisha is immediate and happy. His reaction is not only that of obeying, but celebrating this change with his family: two of the oxen that helped him plow become the banquet to share with friends and family before leaving them to go with Elijah.
