Ninth Wednesday in Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Wednesday June 6, 2018 Week Nine of Ordinary Time  WORD of the DAY  He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled.  (Mark 12: 27)    How shall I live this Word? How far were from understanding this Gospel truth those who denounced Christianity as a religion of the dead!  Here the evangelist Mark proclaims how God is the God of the living and not of the dead. Even the word cemetery provokes disgust in those who listen, even though the original Greek meaning was literally ‘dormitory’.  Yes, our dear departed have crossed the river of life to the other shore, but certainly not to immerse themselves in a dead reality. The little child who was brought into the room to give a last greeting to her deceased grandmother was not mistaken when she placed her finger on her lips, asking for silence and said quietly, ‘my grandmother is sleeping’.
