34th Monday in Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Monday November 26, 2018 Thirty-fourth Week of Ordinary Time  WORD of the DAY   When he looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood”.   (Luke 21: 1-4)    How shall I live this Word? Enveloped in the solemnity of the Temple, inlaid with precious stones and sprinkled with votive gifts, rich in liturgical furnishings, and overflowing with the scholarly verbosity of the scribes, Jesus rich in the wisdom of the Father does not let himself be enchanted, but turns His penetrating and sovereign gaze to the action of an apparently negligible detail: two small coins of a poor widow are worth more than the overflowing tinkling of so many riches. The anonymous woman, without knowing it, has made an essential contribution to the construction of the religious conscience of humanity, with a simple but memorable gesture of generosity.
