FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Monday of HOLY WEEK April 6, 2020 WORD of the DAY Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him. Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.   (John 12: 1-3) How shall I live this Word? Today’s Gospel speaks to us of the irrationality of love, of a love that has no measure, limits, borders, a love that gives itself only because it is love. A waste for some, “What sense does it make?”; a free gift for others. But true love lives on ‘more’, it does not seek meaning or reason; true love does not ask why but just gives itself! Even if it is useless, if it is a plus, even if it seems illogical, true love cannot be stopped. And Jesus recognizes this love in Mary’s gratuitous gesture, and accepts it because...
