Tenth Friday in Ordinary Time

 FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Friday June 15, 2018      Week Ten of Ordinary Time         WORD of the DAY  Then the Lord said: Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord; the Lord will pass by. (1 Kings 19: 11)  How shall I live this Word? Authoritative and powerful Elijah, who converts Ahab, defeats Baal, and sends rain back to Israel, goes into crisis. The gift of God and the relative task do not make him proud, instead, they frighten him. The threats of Jezebel, Ahab’s wife, sound terrible to his ears. In front of others, he is a rock. Alone, he collapses and escapes. He feels the poverty of his humanity: “I am not better than my fathers.” His flight is accompanied by the presence of God. Does he know that he cannot escape His presence? We do not know. But God, however, does not lose sight of him and His word comforts him and directs him to the place of the encounter and of a further revelation of God Himself: “Go out and sit on the mountain in the presence of the Lord.” But You Lord, where are you?
