Remain in Jesus

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD MAY 2, 2021  EASTER SUNDAY 5 WORD of the DAY  I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. (John 15: 5) How shall I live this Word?   John 15 represents the third level of the Last Supper. He intervenes after chapter 14 with a leap, through a sort of break in the narrative thread (as John likes to do). Jesus, after the Washing of the Feet and arousing resistance… After giving the new commandment, with the general awareness of His apostles… After He announces that He is leaving and that He will dwell in His disciples. After these decisive steps, almost at a final ‘now’ point in the discourse (“Get up, let’s go!” 14:31), suddenly, He breaks into a powerful simile: “I am the vine, you my branches.”  “I am”! It is a transcendent way of speaking because the speaker already expresses a reality in line with the Resurrection. This leap to the heart at the final moment of Jesus’ life with His own, guides us to grasp our deepest truth in the nakedness...
