Second Friday of Advent

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD December 15, 2017 Second Friday of Advent   WORD of the DAY   The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said, ‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is vindicated by her works.            (Matthew 11: 19) How shall I live this Word? It seems I can catch a glimpse of an amused look in Jesus that focuses on the intolerance and the false asceticism of his opponents, so ready to “see darkness in light itself”. Seeing darkness is just that: to sometimes interpret even the most normal gestures of others with the evil eye of envy and jealousy mixed with the presumption of being able to judge others in every way. Thus, we too run the risk of falling into the ridiculous at times, as well as into a wrong and bad judgment.  Jesus certainly did not barricade himself as a “warning” for the larks “, just like the false asceticism of all times.
