Seventh Saturday in Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Saturday, March 2, 2019  WORD of the DAY  And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.  When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.”   Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them. (Mark 10: 13-16)   How shall I live this Word?   The low value that was attributed to children is confirmed in our Gospel passage by the fact that the term used – ‘paidìon’ – is a diminutive, and moreover not declined in the male gender, as we would expect, but in the neutral. The child does not have greatness, has no sex, has no art or part; is pure need and pure dependence.
