Second Saturday of Advent

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD December 15, 2018 Second Saturday of Advent  WORD of the DAY   Then the disciples asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” He said in reply, “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. (Matthew  17: 10-13)   How shall I live this Word? For the people who profess to be religious, for the scribe who want to discipline God’s omnipotence from the height of his culture, bending it to the supervision of an only human ordering and classifying mind, the risk is always that of not recognizing the flesh of Jesus Christ. As long as faith is smoothed over and accommodated through precepts, norms, mannerisms of the facade, dragged along by lazy conformation to traditions, we will lose that essential link between spirit and life which is the basis of the Incarnation. And then we will not know how to recognize the face of Elijah...
