FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT March 1, 2020 WORD of the DAY  Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.   He fasted for forty days and forty nights,  and afterwards he was hungry. The tempter approached and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.”  He said in reply, “It is written: ‘One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’          (Matthew 4: 1-4)   How shall I live this Word? The charm of evil, the pursuit of pleasure, the desire for transgression, we often feel them present in our life: ‘once only, what harm is there!’ And we say it with confidence, trying to convince ourselves that ‘evil can’t hurt us’ and that ‘evil isn’t only bad’, that ‘temptation is not so dangerous’, that we are masters of our lives and of our choices.  And from temptation we pass slowly, to the deliberate choice of sin, and we fall into it, making habitual what is not good, sure that we are...
