TUESDAY of HOLY WEEK

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Tuesday of HOLY WEEK April 7, 2020 WORD of the DAY Simon Peter said to him, “Master, where are you going?” Jesus answered [him], “Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, though you will follow later.” Peter said to him, “Master, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Amen, amen, I say to you, the cock will not crow before you deny me three times.” (John 13: 36-38) How shall I live this Word? We are very angered by poor Peter who, although he was so loved by Jesus, he denied Him three times. And we judge him, condemn him, and affirm with conviction, ‘I would never have done that.’ This is not true! How many times we too are enthusiastic disciples. We want to change the world with Jesus; we want to follow Him faithfully until death. Then, for even more miserable reasons than that of Peter, who was afraid, we abandon Him and forget about Him.
