Second Sunday of Lent

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Second Sunday of LENT March 8, 2020 WORD of the DAY “While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” (Matthew 17: 5) How shall I live this Word? Jesus has just told the apostles of his proximate passion and death, but they did not understand, they did not want to understand. As they go towards Jerusalem, the experience of the Transfiguration is reserved for Peter, James, and John. In this event is the proclamation of our true destiny, a relaunching of that clear hope that resists every challenge, even that of death. At the climax of the whole scene, there is the voice of the Father who, as He envelops the disciples with His presence, declares, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” The Father repeats the declaration already made at His Baptism, “This Jesus is my Son, my one treasure, my all…”. However, to this affirmation is joined the command, “Listen to Him.” Receive His word....
