First Tuesday of Advent

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Tuesday December 4, 2018 FIRST Tuesday OF ADVENT  WORD of the DAY   Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, But he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide fairly for the land’s afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. Justice shall be the band around his waist, and faithfulness a belt upon his hips.    (Isaiah  11: 3-5)   How shall I live this Word? Isaiah sees the shoot of the metaphor of a new world promised by God.  The shoot is the Messiah sent by God and whom God clothed with His gifts, the ones that will be called the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament.  These gifts clothe Him and transform Him into a man who does not judge by appearances, nor by hearsay, but by listening directly to the people and the situations before making a decision.  He does not trust prejudices but lives justice as fairness, making differences as needed because equity is not equality.  It is a new balance, not upheld...
